Most of us know about the story of the 13 year old who committed suicide after being bullied by the 49 year old mother of another young girl via the social networking site, MySpace. The mother pretended to be a nice, good looking 16 year old boy romancing the victim online for 4 weeks. Then suddenly, the mother, still in the role of the boy, changed personalities dramatically and told the 13 year old girl the world would be better off without her. She killed herself after the online conversation.

Suicide among young children ages 10-14 is uncommon in the United States. In Illinois, there have been 8 suicides among children in this age group over an 8 year period from 1999 to 2007.

However, there were 3 suicides among children in Illinois just last month. This has left mental health professionals, lawmakers and other professionals shocked and looking for answers.

One answer that may offer some explanation for 2 of the suicides is bullying. Read more here.
