Suicide Risk Factors
Depression is the leading cause of suicide among all groups. Identifying and understanding the symptoms and treatment for depression is a primary goal of preventing suicide in the world.
Other suicide risk factors include:
· A previous suicide attempt
· History of depression and/or other mental illness
· Alcohol and/or other drug abuse
Family history of violence
Physical illness
Feeling alone or isolated
· History of being abused physically, emotionally or sexually
· Sense of despair about the future
· A sudden and unespected loss
· Being bullied at school
Most people find it very difficult issue to talk about the issue of suicide. Given the magnitude of the problem, however, this dialogue is essential.
